Hi everyone,
looking forward to riding with you all for this trip.
a few things about me:
1. my cell phone number is 646-229-0071. I usually keep my cell phone in a bag on my bike and check it periodically.
2. My long distance pace (extending over the typical hilly terrain headed north on 9W) is around 14MPH. I go faster on the flats, even faster down hill, and pretty gosh darn slow going up hill.
3. I would not worry too much about "dropping" me. I sort of ride the pace I ride and accept that I'm often the slowest one in the group (and get passed frequently enough that my ego is long gone on this front). I know how to fix a flat and whatnot so no risk I'll be completely abandoned.
4. My go bag going in the support van will have all manner of Nuun electrolyte and GU gels. If you're biking along and think "man I could use a Nuun electrolyte supplement or GU gel" then head on down to my bag.

June 9, 2021
Hi All - good morning. Getting ready for the weekend. Good news is - the weather really seems to be cooperating for 2 great days of riding!
But I have a question regarding Day 1's route for the group. See route here as it stands: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/36094654
Please note at mile 6 right after Nyack it turns away from the river and follows 9W to just past mile 13 (with some hills).
Alternately there is an option to stay by the river on a bike path for about 5 miles which is flat but not paved.
The question I'm wondering is: Would folks prefer this flat path by the water even though it is unpaved or 9W with the hills but paved?
I have been on that path with my road bike and it was OK to ride but that was several years ago so wondering if others have any more current info on it.
Please let me know thoughts when you can.
thx/gw

Hey Graham, not sure I'm going to make this ride, but some input on the route choices as Im very familiar with both routes. Going the 9w route gives you a 400 foot hill and an additional 100 ft. Going along the river doesn't have any massive hills, but rather has what I call the lumpies. Basically a whole bunch of 50 to 75 foot hills. You actually do more climbing along the river.
The river path being gravel and lumpy is more work.
All the same, I would still recommend the river path. The view is worth the climbs. Also that area of the hudson has been used as a quary and ice manufacturing a hundred years ago. You see some ruins from these activities along the path.

As a general rule I only ride my bike on pavement unless I have absolutely no choice.
