SRS5 – Oyster Bay & Locust Valley - Recap

Saturday, May 18, 2024 - Recap

Ride has concluded.

Explore the Gold Coast of Long Island

60 miles (or 50 miles or 27 🚆, 36 🚆, 48 🚆)

Saturday, May 18, 2024

Since this ride starts in Queens there are several ways to get to the start point:

-Take the E/F (Briarwood stop, best) or J/Z trains (121st Street stop) – always give yourself 20 minutes more than you think you need when taking the subway (45 minutes if you have to do a transfer).
-Wards & Randall's Feeder Ride - 12 miles, 426 feet of climbing
-Williamsburg Bridge Feeder Ride - 10 miles, 300 feet of climbing

(RSVP for the feeder rides separately.)

Once we get to Old Westbury the riding starts getting pretty nice. Oyster Bay itself is lovely. You'll want to spend sometime in the park looking out at all the boats in Oyster Bay Harbor.

After Oyster Bay the ride goes through Locust Valley and Glen Cove before heading back to the city.

Miles: 60

Feet Climbing: 2,030

60 Mile Route w/ GPX and cuesheet download options

To shorten this route by 3 miles (and a hill climb) either start with the 50 mile route (below) and change to the 61 mile route when you have lunch in Oyster Bay, or listen for the queues when you get to Oyster Bay that will tell you turns to make to reduce the length of the ride.

You can shorten this ride to 50 miles with 1,813 feet of climbing, by cutting out the Locust Valley loop using this route:

Once you're back in Queens, then the question is how to get back to Manhattan. You have the following options:

-Take the F train (179th Street), the E train (Parsons Blvd), or the J/Z trains (Jamaica Center)
-Take the scenic route back to Wards & Randalls
-Take a direct route back to Wards & Randalls
-Take the direct route back to the Williamsburg Bridge
-Take a more scenic route back to the Williamsburg Bridge (best for people further down in Brooklyn)

Important: Because we don't know where people are coming from the feeder rides and how you get to your destination from the end of the ride both need to be added the 61 miles shown above. This means the total mileage is at least 85 to/from Wards & Randalls Island.

Have a great ride guys! I'd join in , but I can't seem to find a place to park that works both for logistically and financially  for a ride. Enjoy!

If anyone wants to leave from an alt spot in Brooklyn and ride over Forest Park, I'll be leaving from Saratoga Park (border of Bed-stuy / Bushwick) at 7:30am. Shoot me a WhatsApp or message: +1 312-513-7542

I'm down for that, I'm like 5 min away. 646.302.5303

I was going to do the feeder ride from the bridge but suddenly questioned the sanity (and the additional miles) of going all the way to the river just to double back east again.
