Brooklyn-Queens Greenway Ride - Recap
Saturday, March 20, 2021 - Recap
Explore Brooklyn & Queens! Ride the Greenway to Fort Totten Park
36 miles (or 50+)
Saturday, March 20, 2021
Please note, I am taking a page from Jay's previous rides. I would love to have a co-captain for this ride so please comment if you'd be interested.
--
I'd love to take an opportunity to explore Brooklyn & Queens, utilizing the Brooklyn-Queens Greenway Guide.
This path begins in Coney Island, Brooklyn and runs all the way through to Alley Pond Park and Fort Totten in Bayside, Queens, and is comprised of 9 segments.
--
For this ride we'll complete segments 3-9, approximately 35.6 miles.
3 PROSPECT PARK
4 EASTERN PARKWAY
5 HIGHLAND PARK/RIDGEWOOD RESERVOIR
6 FOREST PARK
7 FLUSHING MEADOWS CORONA PARK
8 KISSENA-CUNNINGHAM CORRIDOR
9 ALLEY POND PARK TO FORT TOTTEN
--
Let's meet at GAP (Grand Army Plaza) at 10:45am on Saturday, 2/20 and get going at 11:00am. We'll do the park loop and continue on, perhaps stopping for a bite in Forest Park or Flushing. We'll finish the route just after Fort Totten which is super picturesque with a historic Civil War fortress.
I'll likely ride the ~13 miles back to Bed-stuy, to make this a 50 mile ride. The nearest subway back to the city from Fort Totten is the Flushing 7 train (approx 4 miles).

Anthony,
The ride looks great but are you sure about the weather? I see a forecast for 30 degrees and snow on that day.

Hi Paul, I'll monitor and let's see as we get closer. Will keep the group updated.

Hi Anthony & all. I will likely cut out after segment 7 Flushing Meadows/Corona, riding home at that point via Sunnyside/LIC/Kosciuszko Bridge to Williamsburg. Fingers crossed that it ends up a BIT warmer next weekend!

Possible to do this tomorrow (Saturday)? The weather forecast for Sunday does not look good.

February 26, 2021
Hi all, my bike is still in the shop since my dooring accident, plus rainy weather all weekend is expected. That said, please feel free to make a ride for this weekend if you feel inclined. I will shift this one to next weekend. Looks clearer (for now). Hope to see you all soon.

Hi everyone, wanted to take a quick poll of if anyone is interested in riding on Sunday. Accuweather says 37, real feel 31, sunny but cold. I'm happy to keep shifting this back, to warmer weather weekends ahead, but wanted to do a check in with you all quickly. Hope you're all well!

I vote to push back another week (or more as needed). I was out commute riding the last few days and it was not so pleasant.

Here's a route from the end of the greenway (just past Fort Totten) back to East Harlem…
https://ridewithgps.com/routes/35381654
It's 13 1/2 miles - so ~50 miles total. The queues have NOT been checked, so use with caution. You can also follow the first 9+ miles of that route to get back to the Queensboro Bridge - just turn the opposite direction and go south instead of north when you get to Astoria.
Heather H.
March 15, 2021
Out of town next weekend, so I'll have to miss this. Hope to ride again with you folks soon.

March 20, 2021
Good morning, I'm at Grand Army Plaza, at the Greenmarket, just at the entrance to Prospect Park, where they are selling flowers and plants. Feel free to call or text me: 312-523-7542
