STS2 - Larchmont & Scarsdale - Recap
Saturday, April 24, 2021 - Recap
Charming Westchester Suburbs
61 miles (or 31 ๐, 49 ๐ miles)
Saturday, April 24, 2021
This ride is for folks who aren't keen on urban riding through the Bronx, but want a shorter ride than the 77 mile ride out to Rye.
You can take a look at the route below. It looks horribly convoluted because it's trying to keep you riding with the 74 mile group for as long as possible. Then it comes back from Scarsdale on streets that are known to be really pleasant.
In short, this group will ride with the 74 mile group to Larchmont and then up into Scarsdale, then this group will ride back towards Mamaroneck and then ride to New Rochelle. At that point you can take the 6 train, or a route through the Bronx.
The core route is as follows:
Mileage: 46 miles
Feet Climbing: 2,525
61 mile route w/ GPX and cuesheet download options (49 miles + 10 or 12 miles below)
That gets you to Pelham Bay Park at which point you can take the 6 train, or take one of the following routes back to Manhattanโฆ
-
Direct route back to Wards & Randall's Island
10 miles, 314 feet of climbing -
Scenic route back to Wards & Randall's Island
12 miles, 350 feet of climbing

Great ride! I especially liked riding by the coastal area. And I enjoyed cruising through the quiet neighborhoods.
On the way back, switching to the new course at Pelham Bay was a little bit of a pain, because we got disoriented and took a wrong turn or two getting back on the greenway. It might be better if the last leg were combined into the main course, even at the cost of losing a choice about the route.
