STS3 – Rockland Lake, Nyack and The Cuomo Bridge - Recap
Saturday, May 1, 2021 - Recap
Lakes, Rivers & Bakeries!
41 🚆 miles
Saturday, May 1, 2021
In week three everyone heads to Rockland Lake. We start by going up Knickerbocker Road, then go through Old Tappan (which is very quaint 🎥), then we get on the Joseph B Clarke rail trail (🎥) and take that up to Blauvelt. Then up through West Nyack and then to Congers where we'll grab lunch at Steve's Prime Meats and then go over to Rockland Lake to eat.
41 mile riders ride on the boardwalk that goes out over Congers Lake (🎥) just before lunch. Then after lunch they ride south on the Hudson River Geenway which has beautiful views of the Hudson River and the Cuomo Bridge. After Nyack they head over the Cuomo Bridge (🎥) and will take MetroNorth home from Tarrytown. Usually we try to avoid requiring trains to get home, but it was the only way to get shorter distance riders up to Rockland Lake, and going over the Cuomo Bridge should be fun!
(This route includes 1.5 miles on pristine gravel which IS skinny tire friendly 🎥).

Would I be able to return home on my own after about 1 hour?

Hey Angelo,
There are a couple of good spots about 15 or 16 miles into the ride where you can cut across to the return portion of the route. Look at the 54 mile route and look at the section in Tappan and Sparkill. It's easy to cut over to get on the southbound section there. You can also cut over in Closter on Closter Dock Road. I can give you more details tomorrow.

The ride was scenic and the trails beautiful! Would have never discovered these trails had it not been for this ride. Peter and Jay did a super job. Lunch was awesome! I would do this ride again. It cut out a chunk of 9W to back roads. Maybe we can eliminate the donut stop. Don’t be mad at me Peter, I know you love that stop! 😊😎🙋🏻♀️🚴♀️
