STS2– Larchmont & Throgs Neck - Recap
Saturday, April 24, 2021 - Recap
Yachts, Mansions, Forts & Industrial Areas…
47 miles (or 33+ 🚇 miles)
Saturday, April 24, 2021
We'll start on Wards & Randalls Island and start by taking the Bronx River Greenway (and surface streets) to Bronxville and then ride over to Larchmont. If you haven't ridden in this area before – parts of it are simply gorgeous. We'll all stop for a bit at Umbrella Point in Larchmont which overlooks Larchmont Harbor (🎥). If we're lucky the Larchmont Yacht Club will be setting sail for their Saturday races. Everyone will also go past Premium Millpond which is über picturesque.
47 mile riders ride the same route as 42 mile riders through New Rochelle. In Pelham Bay Park (🎥) they split off and go over to Orchard Beach (once considered "The Riviera Of The Bronx"). Then they head south to Throgs Neck (🎥) where they can explore the fascinating Fort Schuyler. (Make sure to bring ID – since it's a Coast Guard facility you might be asked for ID, but usually they just waive you through). Then they rejoin the Healthy Habits route on a mix of mostly quiet urban streets and greenways including the greenways in Pugsley Creek Park (🎥) and Soundview Park (🎥). And finally the ride ends on Randalls Island.
Please note: Much of the ride through the Bronx is pretty "urban". It's safe, and you're routed on the quietest streets possible, but if frequent "unclipping" bothers you, then we recommend you ride either the 55 or 72 mile route – both have distance options in the mid-40s.
Miles: 49 (less w/ MetroNorth or subway return)
Feet Climbing: 2,010
47 mile route w/ GPX & cuesheet download options

When I click on the GPX link it takes me to a Ride with GPS page that says "the ride you are trying to view is not public."

Kevin - Sorry about that. It should be fixed now. I didn't finalize the route until a couple weeks ago and when I was done I forgot to set it to public.
In general though it's often best to download the ride just a few days before the actual ride since last minute changes are sometimes made. That said, you should be able to at least look at it, so…
