STS1 – Market Diner & Piermont - Recap
Saturday, April 17, 2021 - Recap
Start the season with something easy and familiar…
36 miles (or 29 miles)
Saturday, April 17, 2021
Riding up to Market Diner (and beyond) is one of the most common routes for NY-area cyclists. Usually people just go up and back on 9W. We mix it up a bit by riding surface streets through Tenafly, Demarest & Rockleigh on the way up, but then we do a pretty standard ride back on 9W, though we do route you through Columbia's Lamont campus to avoid a hill climb on 9W where there isn't a good shoulder to ride on. And we get you off 9W onto quiet streets just after the wide shoulders end in Englewood Cliffs.
There are two distance options for this ride… The full route is 35 miles, but if you turn around at Market Diner it's just 29 miles.
If you do the full route you'll go out onto the "pier" (it's actually a spit of land) in Piermont. On the pier you'll have a great view of the river and the Mario Cuomo Bridge.
Besides Market Diner, you can also get food and fluids at Bunbury's in Piermont.
Miles: 36
Feet Climbing: 1,732
36 Mile Route w/ GPX & cuesheet download options
Turning around at Market Diner reduces this ride to 29 miles.

Hiya how do I get signed on to the group membership for ride with gps in order to download the routes? I don't think I ever received an email with those instructions. Thanks.

Hello all, my phone lock was supposed to arrive today and I just got a notice it got delayed until Sunday and my local bike shop just closed.
Anyone has an extra one that I could borrow or buy from? Or do you think I'll be able to make it without the phone until we reach any bike shops in the route? Any suggestions are welcome.

We do pass 3 bikeshops along the route. The first will probably not be open when we pass by. You can keep your phone in your pocket for this ride, but we are glad you will have it for next week. Keep your audio cues on so you will hear Ride with GPS on your phone. Also, let those you're riding with know you'll be following them.

My manhattan bound train from Brooklyn has not been kind to me this morning. Will hope to see you at the start late, at Strictly.
