STS1 – Market Diner & Nyack - Recap
Saturday, April 17, 2021 - Recap
A variation on a familiar route…
41 miles
Saturday, April 17, 2021
Riding up to Nyack is one of the most common routes for NY-area cyclists. Usually people just go up and back on 9W. We mix it up a bit by riding surface streets through Tenafly, Demarest & Rockleigh on the way up before stopping at Market Diner. But then our route is pretty standard. The 36 mile riders will be turning around in Piermont, but the ride along the river as you head north from Piermont is pretty wonderful… (🎥) We then do a pretty standard ride back on 9W, though we do route you through Columbia's Lamont campus to avoid a hill climb on 9W where there isn't a good shoulder to ride on. And we get you off 9W onto quiet streets just after the wide shoulders end in Englewood Cliffs.
There are lots of cyclist-friendly options for food and fluids – Market Diner in Palisades, Bunbury's Coffee Shop in Piermont, and Runcible Spoon and Boxer Donut – both of which are in Nyack.

Suggestion: If you're familiar with riding up and back to Nyack and want to try something a little different – consider the route that does a little hill climbing in Blauvelt State Park before getting to Nyack. It's just 47 miles if you skip the portion of the route above Nyack.

Always wanted to ride to Nyack but wasn’t sure how best to get there. This route was planned out nicely on less crowded and interestingly scenic roads. Thanks for organizing it.

Great ride! I enjoyed the relatively quiet streets, scenic parts near Nyack, and food. The event was organized really well overall.
