Throgs Neck & Glen Island - Recap
Saturday, November 28, 2020 - Recap
Explore the Bronx & New Rochelle Waterfronts
~40 miles (or 16 π, 30+ π miles)
Saturday, November 28, 2020
The route we'll take goes through some of the nicer parts of the South Bronx (Soundview Park, Pugsly Creek Park), over to Throgs Neck and then up along the water to Orchard Beach / Pelham Bay Park, and then onto Glen Island Park in New Rochelle. Coming back we'll take the Hutchinson River Greenway.Β

I'm not absolutely certain we'll be able to get down to Fort Schulyer at the end of Throgs Neck, but we'll try.
Β
Given that this is the first cold(ish) weather ride of the season, we'll stick somewhat close to the subway so if the temps are uncomfortable you can get home easily. From mile ~16 to ~30 the subway won't be an option as we go into New Rochelle, but by mile 16 you'll have a good idea of how things are going. On the way back after mile 30 you can jump on the subway at a number of spots along the route. So do bring your MetroCard, just in case.Β
Β
The other suggestion is to bring a small backpack with an extra layer for each part of your body that might get cold. The backpack is also handy if you need to take off layers.
Β
In general the ride will have a casual, relaxed vibe with a fair amount of "urban" riding. So be prepared for areas where you may need to clip in and out. A hybrid is a completely decent bike for this ride.

I will be out of town for Thanksgiving so won't join. I'll hopefully join subsequent rides!

I unfortunately won't be back in town until Saturday afternoon. Hope to join you all for more rides this winter, when possible.

Can't join for this one, but I'm still interested in other colder weather rides.
