Our Ride Captains
Stephan Petryczka
Stephan (ste-fon) joined the club in 2022 and serves as the ride director as well as a ride captain for both our Advanced and Recreational rides. Stephan’s favorite rides include long adventurous road cycling routes out of the city and to the tri-state area’s hidden gems. Stephan loves a map and thus plans many of the routes for the club but will take no accountability if you hated the experience! Stephan is also a member of New York Cycle Club (NYCC). He develops affordable housing for work and lives in Clinton Hill, Brooklyn.

Ivan Evtimov
Ivan joined the club in 2022 and serves as a ride captain for both our Advanced and Recreational rides and leads the occasional lap in the park. Ivan loves a good climb on the ride and he’ll definitely find all the hills on the way to Nyack. However, his favorite rides take him to new places both locally and beyond. His absolute favorite route/story… (to be filled in, need to think about it, lol). Ivan’s job is to break and hack AI (for good!) and lives in Brooklyn Heights, Brooklyn.

Eric joined the club in 2024 and generally serves as a ride captain for our Recreational rides and our weekday Prospect Park Laps. His favorite rides are those that involve something new—either exploring a country route outside of the city, or a tasty bakery (slight weight on the latter). Off the bike, Eric loves indulging in all things nerdy, from gaming to Star Trek. For work, Eric helps academics find and use research grants. He lives in Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn.
Bill Sokol
Bill joined the club in 2025 and serves as a ride captain for both our Advanced and Recreational rides. Bill’s favorite rides are anything out of the city on quiet roads with some good hills. Outside of biking, Bill loves last minute trips and cancelling plans to stay in and watch a movie. Bill works in finance and lives in Long Island City, Queens.

Lucas Atayde
Lucas joined the club in 2022 and generally serves as a ride captain for our Advanced rides. Lucas’s favorite rides include Prospect Park Night Laps and Nyack. Additionally, he loves traveling out of state for weekend adventures. Lucas is a computer programmer and lives in Prospect Lefferts Gardens, Brooklyn.

Stephen joined the club in 2025 and now captains both our Advanced and Recreational rides, equally happy pushing the pace or pulling over for carrot cake. His favorite routes are Bear Mountain and Croton Dam (flat terrain need not apply). Come winter, he swaps wheels for skis. By day, he's an art director. Stephen is a Dumbo (resident).
Michael Mitchell
Michael joined OutCycling when he relocated to New York in 2025 and previously had been a ride leader for CycleOut in London for about a decade. Mike serves as a ride captain for both our Advanced and Recreational rides. His favorite rides tend to be a train ride out of the city - he loves rural scenery and rolling hills - but on weekdays he can be found riding in the 5 boroughs. Mike lives in Dumbo, Brooklyn.

Iñaki joined the club in 2024 and serves as a ride captain for our Advanced rides. Iñaki’s favorite rides include the Empire State Trail and Bear Mountain. Iñaki loves bakeries, the beach, and hiking. Iñaki works in health policy and lives in Park Slope, Brooklyn.

Tom joined the club in 2022 and generally serves as a ride captain for our Advanced, Recreational, Prospect Park Laps, and is team captain for Outcycling’s Cycle for the Cause team. Tom enjoys the meditative nature of long rides out of the city and the agency that a bike can afford in exploring new places. He loves the sense of community that comes from sharing these experiences with others! Tom is a visual artist who maintains a studio in Long Island City and exhibits his art work nationally and internationally. He also works for an art gallery managing their inventory. He lives in Sunnyside, Queens.
Tony Cai
Tony joined the club in 2024 and serves as a ride captain for our weekday Central Park laps. His favorite rides are those that venture beyond the city, taking cyclists to places they might have never discovered otherwise. An adventurous foodie, Tony loves traveling to different countries, exploring local cuisines, and learning about new cultures. He also enjoys live music and a good dance party, but he’s just as happy relaxing in a mountain cabin on his own and spending time reflecting. His secret power? He can fall asleep just about anywhere. Tony works in finance and lives in Morningside Heights, Manhattan.

Jules joined the club in 2026 and serves as a ride captain for our Recreational rides as well as our weekday Prospect Park laps. Jules’s favorite rides include Nyack and Bear Mountain. Jules loves Matcha in any way shape or form. Jules is a fashion stylists and social media marketing manager outside of Outcycling and lives in Bushwick, Brooklyn.

Thanasis joined the club in 2026 and serves as a ride captain for our Advanced rides as well as our weekday Central Park laps. Thanasis’s favorite rides include Bear Mountain and loops around the rolling hills of Connecticut. Thanasis loves hiking, skiing and long walks with their dog, Matilda. Thanasis works in product management and lives in Harlem.
Don Varley
Don joined the club in 2026 and serves as a ride captain for our Advanced rides as well as our weekday Prospect Park laps. Don’s favorite rides include Bear Mountain and through the rolling hills of Connecticut. Don is passionate about transportation, urban planning, and all things outside and water related. Don works for the MTA and lives in Astoria, Queens.

Nick joined the club in 2026 and serves as a ride captain for our Advanced or Recreational rides as well as our weekday Central Park laps. Nick’s favorite rides include anything long and flat (and fast!). Nick loves racing, spritzes, going to the beach, and all things music. Nick works for a record label and lives in Astoria, Queens.

Chad joined the club in 2026 and serves as a ride captain for both our Advanced and Recreational rides as well as our weekday Central Park laps. Chad’s favorite rides include those that explore the many neighborhoods of the NYC area and beyond, from quiet Hudson Valley towns that encourage him to slow down to the vibrant cultural enclaves of the city that satisfy his itch for new foods and flavors. He loves fast cars (and fast bicycles), great wines, world travel, mountain trekking, and challenges that test his limits. Chad works in finance as an investor and lives in Hudson Yards, Manhattan.
