Phil Greenwald and Daniel O’Neil are leading this 65-mi. ride to a feminist vegetarian restaurant in Bridgeport, Conn., mostly via bike paths and back roads, though we will spend some time on U.S. Rt. 1 / Post Road, where heavy traffic is the rule.
Dinner is at Bloodroot (www.bloodroot.com), where the menu changes depending on what vegetables are in season. We meet at 11 a.m. at the Loeb Boathouse in Central Park (East Drive, just north of 72nd St.) or high noon at 207th Street and Seamen Avenue and return via Metro North’s New Haven Line.
Bring a bike pass for the train back (http://web.mta.info/bike/), money for lunch and dinner, and lights for your bike (for the short ride to the train station after dinner). The restaurant is very informal, so there's no need to change clothes. We have done this ride several times and have never been disappointed with either the ride or the dinner.
